Causes of Halitosis (bad breath)
Causes of Halitosis (bad breath)
* Oral hygiene deficient
Brushing conducted two to three times a day and flossing at least once a day prevent the accumulation of harmful bacteria in the biofilms (plaque). However, research shows that keep teeth and gums clean is not always enough to stop the halitosis. For a breath fresh, clean language is also essential that the teeth brushings daily. Indeed, the buds and crevices of the tongue contain dead cells, the biofilm (plaque) and food debris that can not be eliminated by mechanical action of a toothbrush or, ideally, on the a high-language specially designed for this purpose. Any other surface allowing the retention of biofilm (plaque) should also be thoroughly cleaned (e.g. appliances and dentures).
*Dental problems
Even if proper hygiene is the breath is affected by the presence of microorganisms in tooth decay, abscesses and gum disease (gingivitis and periodontitis). As long as the required treatment has not been made, the metabolism of these microorganisms creates volatile sulfur compounds that cause halitosis.
* Dry mouth (xerostomia)
Saliva has a power antibacterial and antifungal. It also ensures the pH regulation: too much acidity increases the risk of cavities and alkalinity promotes the formation of tartar. Mouth breathing, stress, several drugs, some medical conditions and hormonal changes, for example, can lead to dry mouth, and loss of salivary flow results in the event of halitosis.
Medical problems
Studies confirm that halitosis is associated with various medical conditions such as diabetes, gastrointestinal disorder, liver disease or kidney ailments and respiratory tract (e.g., sinusitis, asthma, laryngitis, etc.). .
* Habits
Tobacco and alcohol affect the smell of breath. Control of these habits plays a major role in the prevention of halitosis.
* Food
The dishes based on garlic, onion and some spices can affect breath. People following a diet, failing to take a meal or fasting, may have a persistent bad breath even if oral hygiene is adequate. The consumption of balanced meals and healthy snacks to help them.
