How to choose your sunscreen?

The shelves of pharmacies crowded its various sun creams: water-resistant, for children with SPF 15, 30 and even 60! Tips and tricks to make a choice. Above all, good news: all sun creams sold in Quebec meet the safety standards of Health Canada. Here is the advice of Dr. Jean-Francois Tremblay, dermatologist at MedIME, Institute of aesthetic medicine, to navigate among the array of products offered:
- Choose a sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays, since both types of rays have effects on cancer and premature aging of the skin. Sunscreens are labeled "broad spectrum" protection against UVA and UVB.
- Look for products bearing the logo of the Canadian Dermatology Association. - For bathing, prefer sun resistant to water.
- Ideally, choose screens with an SPF 30 (sun protection factor) minimum. In the South or in outdoor sports, SPF 45 or even 60 is recommended.
