Involvement Of Periodontal Surgery In Treating Severe Gum Disease

The optimal treatment for a dental patient with moderate-to-severe periodontal disease may involve periodontal surgery.

What is Pocket Reduction?

This kind of periodontal treatment is required if a dental patient have pockets greater than 4 mm in depth. These deep pockets contains bacterial plaque which placed gum tissue at risk for long-term infection. And this procedure is also needed when you have uncontrolled accumulation of bacterial plaque at the gum line resulting to the destruction of bones and deepening of periodontal pockets.

This type of therapy includes scaling and root planing and this helps in reducing the risk of progressive periodontal disease and in reducing the depth of periodontal pockets.
