No Difference Between Gum Infection, Gum Disease And Periodontal Disease

There is no difference between periodontal disease, gum disease and gum infection. They are all synonymous terms. Periodontal or gum disease is the most common disease all over the globe and it has been estimated that 70 percent of the adult population are experiencing some dental problems.

An infection or the inflammation of the gum tissue is known as gingivitis, however it does not affect the bone that surrounds and supports the teeth. Bleeding, swollen gums, that can be sensitive to brushing and flossing are the symptoms of early gum disease. Sometimes symptoms may not be apparent making you unaware of it. Gingivitis is curable and reversible with the proper treatment which is why regular check ups with your dentist and hygienist should be given utmost importance.
