What is Orthodontics?
The Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that corrects malpositions dental and bone. The teeth malposition is more difficult to clean and may be lost prematurely as a result of caries and / or disease. These malpositions can cause muscle strains responsible for headaches, disturbance of the temporo-mandibular joint and pain in the neck, the shoulder and back. Misaligned teeth can also seriously harm the beauty of a smile.
Among the benefits of orthodontic treatment are a healthy mouth, a more attractive face and teeth which are more likely to last a lifetime. A specialist in this area is called a "orthodontist". Orthodontists are trained for several years after the end of their dental school.
How do I know if I need orthodontic treatment?
Only your dentist or orthodontist can see if you need orthodontic treatment. A treatment plan will be decided on the basis of a diagnosis on medical and dental history, clinical examination, plaster models, X-rays and photos.
If you are in the following cases, you may need orthodontic treatment:
Split (Overbite) - where the upper teeth cover the lower teeth too
Prognathism - where the lower teeth are in front of the upper teeth.
Occlusion cross - where the upper teeth do not spill on the lower teeth.
Gap - there is no contact between the teeth when closing.
No correlation lines middle - the middle of the upper jaw does not correspond with the midpoint of the lower jaw.
Diastema - naturally existing spaces between teeth or caused by extractions.
Dimensions - when there is not enough room for all teeth and are bound to overlap.
